Our Services
-
Our substance abuse and alcohol counselling services are tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. We utilize evidence-based therapeutic techniques to address the underlying causes of addiction and promote healing and recovery. Our addiction specialist works one-on-one with clients to develop a personalized treatment plan that includes motivational interviewing, mindfulness and meditation, physical health and relapse prevention strategies. We also provide continuous support and follow-up to ensure sustained progress.
-
At The Addiction Specialists, our counselling services are grounded in evidence-based therapies that help address the thoughts, emotions, and behaviours connected to substance use and behavioural challenges. We integrate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) into personalised treatment plans based on each client’s needs and goals.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) focuses on how your thoughts, feelings, and actions influence one another.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is especially useful for individuals who struggle with intense emotions, impulsivity, or relationship challenges.
Together, CBT and DBT help clients build emotional resilience, strengthen self-awareness, and reduce reliance on substances as a way to cope — all within a supportive, client-focused environment.
-
We provide pre-care services to help individuals prepare for treatment and set realistic recovery goals. Our aftercare programs support clients transitioning from rehab centres and detox facilities by offering ongoing counseling and relapse prevention education.
-
Our intervention services are designed to assist families and friends in encouraging a loved one to seek help for addiction. Our trained interventionist facilitates structured and compassionate intervention meetings, providing guidance on how to communicate concerns effectively and motivate the individual to accept treatment. We offer support throughout the entire intervention process, from planning, transportation and preparation to post-intervention follow-up.
-
We address behavioural addictions through specialized counselling services that target problematic behaviours such as gambling, pornography use, food-related issues, obesity, gaming, cigarette smoking and excessive use of social media devices. Our approach includes mindfulness techniques and meditation, relapse prevention and personalized coping strategies to help clients regain control over their behaviour and improve their overall quality of life. We also provide ongoing support and monitoring to ensure lasting recovery.

Addiction can strain any relationship — between partners, parents and children, siblings, or extended family. Our Relationship Counselling service supports loved ones who are navigating the impact of substance use, recovery, or relapse. Sessions focus on improving communication, rebuilding trust, setting healthy boundaries, and strengthening connection in a safe, non‑judgmental space. Support is available in‑person or virtually, and may be NIHB‑covered for eligible First Nations and Inuit clients.
-
Our Group Counselling sessions bring together multiple NIHB‑eligible clients who are working through addiction, trauma, or mental‑health challenges. These sessions offer a supportive, community‑based environment where clients can learn from one another, build connection, and strengthen their recovery alongside individual counselling. Each participant receives active therapeutic support during the session, and eligible clients can be billed individually through NIHB. Group counselling is ideal for those who benefit from shared experiences, peer encouragement, and structured therapeutic guidance.
